The
Central Perimeter has some of the best access to public transit
in the region. In fact the only other area of town with this
level of service is downtown Atlanta. In December of 2000
the Sandy Spring and North Springs MARTA transit stations
opened, bringing the number of stations in the area to four,
and the bus routes have changed as well.
With
such a great trasnit system in the area every company should
take advantage of the PTC discount transit program.
Discount
Transit Cards from the PTC
One of
the best deals in town. The PTC is able to offer our members
an 8% discount on monthly transit passes from MARTA and CCT,
through our volume buying. Our member companies buy the cards
from the PTC at a discount, then turn around and pass the
savings directly to their employees. Employees not only get
a price break but receive the cards directly at their office
saving them the time and money of going to a ride store and
purchasing it in person.
Employers
that provide and additional subsidy to employees and/or provide
a payroll deduction create an even bigger savings for employees
and the bottom line. Through a payrol deduction employees
get a pre-tax price on their card, saving them even more money.
When employers subsidize the cards they can tap into State
and Federal tax breaks. Employers should ask the PTC for a
detailed explanation of how they can make a discount transit
program work for their particular business environment.
Employers
already participating in the Perimeter Pass program include
Northside and Saint Joseph's Hospitals, the Hilton and Marriott
hotels, Bellsouth.net, Hewlett Packard, UPS, Crawford & Company,
and dozens more! If your company is not participating, contact
the PTC about setting up a meeting with a representative
from your organization.
