Perimeter
CIDs Awarded $6.5 million through ARC Livable Centers Initiative

The Perimeter CIDs has
been awarded a total of $6.5 million through the Livable Centers Initiative (LCI)
grants sponsored by the Atlanta Regional Commission. The
LCI promotes quality growth in the region by providing funds that create opportunities
for more mobility and livability within existing employment areas. It is
designed to promote comprehensive planning and offers construction grants to
improve existing infrastructure and maximize its accessibility and usability
to the consumer.
At
Perimeter, these LCI grants will be used to create an activity
center within the Fulton and DeKalb Perimeter areas that support
the "smart growth" concept of live, work, walk and
play in the community. The process requires local planning
and public outreach to all stakeholders. The recipient
areas share a diversity of mixed-income residential neighborhoods,
employment, shopping and recreation choices as well as a range
of travel modes that include transit, roadways, bike paths,
and pedestrian amenities such as walking paths. This concept influences land use patterns
by concentrating on transportation investments in areas that
are already well-served by existing infrastructure and that
have a comprehensive, community-based plan for growth and development. The
PCIDs continue to move forward rapidly to implement projects
that enhance the area.
