What
and Where is the Central Perimeter?
 |
The
Central Perimeter business district is located north
of downtown Atlanta, at the intersection of I- 285 and
GA Hwy 400, roughly equidistant between I-75 and I-85.
The
district can also be identified as lying along the MARTA
North line, between the Medical Center rail station
and the under-construction North Springs rail station
(in between lie the Dunwoody and Sandy Springs rail
stations). The Central Perimeter extends roughly one
mile out (east and west) on either side of this rail
corridor. With these four stations, the Central Perimeter
will soon have more transit access than any area but
downtown Atlanta.

The
Central Perimeter is one of the most important business activity
areas in metro Atlanta, employing more than 100,000 people,
and home to many regional, national, and international companies.
Headquartered here are InterContinental Hotels Group, Cotton
States, Cox Enterprises, Pilgrims Pride, United Parcel Service,
and Newell Rubbermaid. Other large companies have offices
here as well, including AIG Companies, Crawford & Company,
Compucredit, Hewlett Packard, and Matrix Resources.
Some
of the large office developments in the area include Ashwood,
Concourse, Crown Pointe, Embassy Row, Northpark, Palisades,
Peachtree Dunwoody Pavilion, Perimeter Center, Perimeter Summit,
Ravinia, and The Terraces. Overall, the Central Perimeter
can claim some 24 million square feet of office space.
But commercial
office space is not all the Central Perimeter is about. The
hub of the retail activity in the area is Perimeter
Mall, a development anchored by Bloomingdale's, Macy's,
and Nordstrom. Other important shopping destinations in the
area include SuperTarget, The Home Depot Expo and Recreational
Equipment Incorporated (REI). Some of the best restaurants
in the area include P.F. Chang's, Brio, Joey D's, Cheesecake
Factory, Goldfish, McKendrick's, Savu and Villa Christina.
"Pill
Hill" gives us a claim as the Atlanta region's health
care epicenter, claiming three hospitals --- Children's Healthcare
of Atlanta, Northside, and Saint Joseph's; as well as the
Emory Clinic. The Central Perimeter is also quickly becoming
a center for learning too, with four institutions of higher
learning: the Art Institute of Atlanta, DeVry College, American
Intercontinental University, Troy State University, and the
Paralegal Institute.
The area
and its business, not-for-profit, and neighborhood constituents
are working hard to make the Central Perimeter a true Live-Work-Play
location, attracting people not only for employment, but to
enjoy a higher quality of life. Keep an eye on us to see some
great improvements, including sidewalks and bicycle lanes,
more and better restaurants, more high quality living space,
as well as more accessibility and mobility for employees,
residents and visitors.
