The
PTC is a Transportation Management Association (TMA) charged
with relieving congestion in the Central Perimeter business
district in Atlanta, Georgia, and with helping businesses
and employees find easier, cheaper and less stressful ways
of getting to and from work.
Mission
Statement
"To
improve access to the Central Perimeter area for employees,
visitors, and residents by implementing and promoting transportation
alternatives and improvements through a coordinated and
comprehensive effort of public/private partners."
Business
Philosophy
The
PTC is a non-profit, transportation mangament association
( TMA) organization that provides a forum
for collective planning and action among private sector
interests and a means for on-going coordination with the
public sector.
In other
words, the synergistic nature of the PTC means that several
employers, developers, and public agencies working together
can have a greater impact on congestion and mobility than
the combined efforts of each individual group working alone.
PTC
receives funding and/or financial incentives from the following
organizations and agencies:
What
is a TMA - Transportation Management Association?
Transportation
Management Associations, TMAs, have been around for nearly
20 years, usually in mixed-used Activity Centers such as the
Central Perimeter. TMAs bring public and private organizations
together to tackle traffic congestion and air-quality issues
that affect a specific area. One advantage is that TMAs give
their members a unified voice with which to address local
government and transportation policies.
TMAs work
with local employers and property managers to educate, provide
incentives and influence commuter behavior so that more sustainable
modes of transportation are utilized for commuters traveling
to and from work.
TMAs use
transportation demand management (TDM) strategies optimizing
the movement of people, rather than motor vehicles. As a result
of this strategy, PTC emphasizes partnerships with local business
interests while prioritizing public transit, ridesharing and
non-motorized travel options for commuters.
